This is a huge day in the Premier League title race with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City all in action as the top three fight for the crown.
The big game sees Arsenal travel to the Etihad Stadium, taking on Manchester City in an enormous encounter.
Liverpool need to get their own business done before that game even kicks off though, hosting Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield.
Many would have expected Liverpool to win this one but they were hit early as Danny Welbeck fired the Seagulls ahead.
Luis Diaz hauled Liverpool level but the two sides went into half-time level at 1-1.
Liverpool’s first-half display was full of energy but maybe lacking in composure and clarity in the final third.
Mohamed Salah wasted a couple of chances and Liverpool had problems with Brighton’s counter-attacking ability, especially down their left side.
One Liverpool player did shine though – and earned praise from Jamie Carragher in the process.
Jamie Carragher on Alexis Mac Allister
Liverpool deployed a former Brighton man in their midfield with Alexis Mac Allister starting alongside Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai in the engine room.
Mac Allister completed a £35million move from Brighton to Liverpool over the summer and has been vital all season long.
Often viewed as being an attack-minded player, Mac Allister has also shown his defensive side in a number six role this season.
Deployed ahead of Endo against Brighton, Mac Allister was superb in the first-half and picked out some great passes into the attack.
Mac Allister pinged one ball over the top which Mohamed Salah just couldn’t quite get on the end of, but that pass sparked praise from Jamie Carragher.
The former Reds defender noted (Sky Sports, 2:39pm) that Mac Allister was ‘absolutely outstanding’ in the first half.
Carragher added that Mac Allister was the ‘best player on the pitch’ as he dictated the game from midfield.
“Mac Allister has been absolutely outstanding in this first 39 minutes, the best player on the pitch,” said Carragher.
With Liverpool needing three points ahead of City’s clash with Arsenal, Mac Allister would no doubt love a goal against his former club.
The Argentinian has mostly looked to supply teammates in the first half but we know that he has the scope to score stunners as well, with the Seagulls no doubt wary of his threat.
