All the latest from Arsenal as their Premier League title race suffers a second straight defeat at the hands of the Gunners.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has revealed the main reason why Manchester United are so far ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League title.
The Gunners face stiff competition for the English title this season, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Aston Villa all joining Mikel Arteta’s side.Arsenal, who spent Christmas at the top of the table, now sit fourth after suffering two surprise defeats to West Ham United and Fulham.
The reaction to the defeat may have been a little reactionary, but there is work to be done if the Premier League champions are to return to north London.
Unfortunately for Arteta’s side, Liverpool and Manchester City are at a higher level. Pep Guardiola’s side were recently crowned world champions, with Liverpool five points clear after beating Newcastle United last night.
With plenty of football left to play, Arsenal will continue to push themselves. The January transfer window was perfect for the Gunners with a new centre-forward in mind.
Ivan Toney has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium ahead of his return to football after serving a ban for gambling offences. There are also mentions of Dusan Vlahovic and Victor Boniface.
But midway through the season, Carragher claimed the Gunners have a major disadvantage over their rivals by having Arteta in charge.
Speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, he said: “Liverpool have something that Arsenal don’t. The team has a manager who has won before and some truly world-class players.”If you talk about other opponents, be it Arsenal or Aston Villa, they still have to prove.”
