Alexis McAllister admitted it felt like traveling halfway around the world as Liverpool earned a point against Manchester City on Saturday morning.
Mac Allister has played for Argentina but his game schedule means he was one of the South American players who got a little rest before being called up to the Etihad.
The midfielder admitted he was confident he had given his all for his performance despite the unfortunate timing of the match.
“The jet lag and long journeys are tough, but it is what it is,” McAllister told the club’s official website. “We love football and we want to win, so we did our best.”I think it was a very difficult match, as expected.
“They are a very good team but I think it’s a fair result for both teams. They probably had the ball more but they didn’t have many chances and I think it was a fair result.
“Reflecting on the team’s overall performance, McAllister admitted that the team’s defensive performance was lacking in the first half, but they turned things around after the break against such a strong City side.
He added: “In the first half we didn’t defend as well as we could have, but in the second half we were much better [with more challenges] and it was important to get the ball and then score ourselves .
“I think these guys are really good. You can see their ideas, but our passage was also very good.”It’s important to get a point because it’s a strong team and a tough stadium to play in.
“But we always say we have to take it one step at a time, one game at a time and see what the season brings.”
