As both LeBron James and Luka Doncic finally made their return to the Los Angeles Lakers this weekend, Marcus Smart remains a key player left on the team’s inactive list.
Smart continues to be on the sidelines as he’s been dealing with left lumbar muscle strain. He is yet to make his presence felt for the Lakers since Nov. 25, missing his sixth straight game tonight against the Philadelphia 76ers.
J.J. Redick Drops Key Marcus Smart Injury Update
Before the team’s Sunday clash against the Sixers in Philly, head coach J.J. Redick offered an important update about Smart’s condition.
According to Redick, Smart remains out on a day-to-day basis. Yet promisingly, the team expects him to finally return on Wednesday, as the Lakers will play the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Cup quarterfinals. Smart’s looming on-court comeback will give the Lakers an added edge on both point guard depth and defensive pedigree. The veteran is averaging 9.3 points, 2.9 assists, and 2.3 boards this season.
After tonight’s game against Philadelphia, LA hopes that Smart will finally be good and ready to go for their next outing.
