John Barnes explains why he’s concerned about Declan Rice for Liverpool vs Arsenal clash

John Barnes confessed that the guns are proud of Declan Rice. Mikel Arteta added rice to rice after 150 million pounds from London. He has largely stayed out of the limelight since arriving at the Emirates and has now established himself as one of Arsenal’s key players. Rice even managed to score a number of important goals, including extra-time winners either side of Chelsea’s stunning strikes against Manchester United and Luton. With that in mind, Barnes admitted he is worried about how the Gunners will fare against favorites Liverpool on Saturday.

In an interview with The Anfield Wrap, Barnes said: “This is a game I’m looking forward to. I can’t say I’m worried, but it’s probably the biggest worry I’ve had playing against Arsenal in the last three or four years. Because I think Declan Rice gave them something extra in terms of power. “We always felt we could beat them, but now they have a stronger physical side.”Barnes’ glowing assessment of Rice is well deserved as the England international has played a key role in Arsenal’s efforts so far, taking them to the top of the Premier League table after 17 games. Arteta saw Rice’s comments in the summer about getting the best from those around him ring truer than at Arsenal four months ago. “I see him as a beacon,” the Gunners manager said of his star midfielder.

He’s willing to enlighten others, make others better and make the team better. We discussed a while ago how he can develop his team, compliment his players and build a team with players who want to take their winning ways to the next level.”He has charisma. His experience in this competition will take the team to another level. “He’s got the physicality that we’ve been missing for a while.”Arsenal have not won a league game at Anfield since Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski secured a 2-0 victory in September 2012. Declan Rice was just 13 at the time, but 11 years later he would be a key asset for the Gunners as they look to end their Merseyside woes.
