Jurgen Klopp has a host of strikers for Sunday’s game, but it could be a repeat of Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last April.
Liverpool have the chance to maintain their momentum on Sunday as Jurgen Klopp prepares for another game at Anfield. This time Nottingham Forest came to town.
Being three points clear of bottom-placed Everton means the Reds are edging closer to the title race. But Spurs, who beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Friday, need a win to keep the pressure on.
It is a favorable match for Liverpool. Klopp has brought his squad back to top form and their strength in depth has also improved significantly. That presents a tactical conundrum for the coach, who will have to choose who is up front between Darwin Nunes, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota on Sunday, but the latter shone in the last game.
Jota scored twice to help the Reds beat Steve Cooper’s side 3-2 in April but will be hoping for a convincing win on Sunday. Crucially, Liverpool could easily send the team into the bottom half of the table as they look to return to the form that could secure Klopp’s second Premier League title.
There is little tension between Liverpool’s front three at the moment. Núñez and Jota both got on the scoresheet against Toulouse, while Gakpo registered an assist. This is the correlation you would expect when you look at their lineup.
Klopp looks confident in games where pressing is more important and, despite registering just two assists in the Premier League last season, is excellent at bringing the likes of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah into play. But there is no need for the star to emulate Roberto Firmino’s role against inferior opposition.
