Luis Díaz has returned to training with Liverpool this week and how quickly he makes a return to playing in competitive games will be down to the Colombia forward to decide. The attacker and the Reds are awaiting more news on the situation involving the player’s father and will continue to support him in an unprecedented scenario.
What’s happened? Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has confirmed that Díaz is back with his Reds teammates, but there is no pressure on the 26-year-old to make himself available again for the matchday squad for this weekend’s game with Luton or beyond. Díaz has sat out the previous two Liverpool fixtures.
Klopp praised fellow attacker Cody Gakpo during the press conference as well. Liverpool has more than enough attacking depth even without Díaz, which is a testament to the quality of team that Klopp has assembled.
Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajčetić both remain out but Liverpool does not yet know exactly when either will be back. Klopp said that Bajčetić’s body is not quite ready yet for playing regularly and the Reds will be very careful as he develops. Thiago is set to be out until 2024. What’s been said?
“We have to see how he is and go from there,” Klopp explained in his press conference when asked about Díaz. “Anything that gives us a little bit of hope is good, we are waiting for good news. It’s all about him, if he makes himself available or not.”
