Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp abused referee Anthony Taylor during Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal. The Gunners were ahead for most of the game and, on top of their two-goal advantage, the game ended with another player sent off after Ibrahima Konate received a second yellow card.
Klopp admitted Arsenal were the better team but questioned Taylor’s decision to send off Konate, accusing the referee of trying to influence the game. “We had a lot going against us today,” he said. “This referee gave me a red card against Manchester City because of the fight between Bernardo Silva and Mo Salah. [Diogo] Jota did the same today but there was no red card. “It’s really good to have [Kai] Havertz at Konate with his first yellow card.
Havertz goes down and the referee gives Konate a yellow card. Gabriel [Magaljes] does the same thing as [Darwin] Nunez and he doesn’t even get a yellow card. Klopp said his side could get back into the game before Konate was sent off, but Liverpool showed their “human” side as their performance dipped. “Congratulations to Arsenal,” said Klopp. “We didn’t do enough.
We would have liked to see the match longer at 1-1. I found a way to get into the game. There were no effective shots, but a score was registered. “We had a good second half. Because we were more involved in the game and gave up that goal. That doesn’t help. It just goes to show that boys are people too. Today we are truly human.
They scored goals and were much better than us. We have to play better football. That’s for sure. “Was it a red card? unbelievable. But even then, we lost 2-1 and had only one shot on target.”
