The Dutch international was once viewed as one of the best forward prospects in Europe, with the former Arsenal academy star looking like someone who would go straight to the top.
However, since signing for Dortmund in 2021 over Liverpool, Malen is yet to really hit the heights many expected from the versatile striker, who Mario Gotze lauded as being ‘very dangerous’. Despite underwhelming numbers at Dortmund, Sport Bild now report that Liverpool and Klopp remain interested in signing Malen, who could be an option next summer.
The potential departure of Mohamed Salah will open up a spot in the attack, and with Klopp a fan of the 24-year-old forward, the German could be the one to get the best out of Malen.
Indeed, with Dortmund potentially open to cutting their losses on the forward, a bargain could be on the table for Liverpool, with Malen an ideal fit for the Reds. Whilst Malen hasn’t set the world alight like many expected the attacker to do at Dortmund, there’s a still. a player in there just waiting to come out.
And Liverpool could be where the forward finally unlocks his true potential, with Klopp having a knack of doing these sort of things with attackers.
Salah’s potential departure could allow Klopp to bring in a versatile striker who could succeed the Egyptian king, and Malen could be just that for the Reds. Whilst it is a gamble, it is one that Liverpool should be willing to take, especially if Dortmund are up for selling Malen on the cheap.
Jurgen Klopp reportedly remains interested in signing Donyell Malen despite the attacker snubbing Liverpool for Borussia Dortmund two years ago.
