The German lifted what could be his final piece of silverware with the Reds after he previously announced he would leave the club at the end of the season. His injury-hit Liverpool side eventually scored the game’s only goal thanks to a Virgil van Dijk header with two minutes of extra time remaining.

During the celebrations, Liverpool’s famous anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone rang out around Wembley, seeing Klopp put his arms around his staff and the rest of the team followed suit – joining in and singing back to the supporters behind the goal.

Klopp, who previously managed at Borussia Dortmund for seven years, where they also play You’ll Never Walk Alone, clearly had learned all the words as he sang them back to the Reds behind the goal during his farewell tour.

Liverpool players also stood arm in arm with boyhood supporter Harvey Elliott filming himself signing the anthem and holding a scarf. Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez who missed out on the matchday squad due to injury but still travelled to Wembley were also in the line.

The Reds rode their luck at times in the final as Caoimhin Kelleher kept Cole Palmer at bay after 20 minutes with an incredible point-blank stop, Conor Gallagher hit the post in the second half before the Blues somehow didn’t turn home a goalmouth scramble.

After dominating the extra time period despite calling on a host of youngsters off the bench, it was one of Liverpool’s most senior players in Van Dijk who eventually headed in the winner after seeing a goal disallowed in the second half of regulation time.

Liverpool can still be crowned champions of three more competitions in what could be a special goodbye year for Klopp. The Reds sit top of the Premier League while also remaining in the FA Cup and Europa League.
