Jurgen Klopp makes an early PROMISE to his successor at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has made a promise to his successor at Liverpool. It will likely be Feyenoord’s Arne Slot, of course.

Jurgen Klopp promises Liverpool’s next manager that he’ll share his knowledge of the club when the time comes. Klopp will step down as the Reds’ boss after this season, leaving him with just three games in charge.

The German was asked this week whether he’d be willing to hand out advice to his successor, who is yet to be confirmed. It will likely be Arne Slot, of course, with the Dutchman openly discussing the prospect while still manager of Feyenoord.

Klopp says he doesn’t want to give ‘advice’ as such – but he will be available to talk to.

“I am not in a position to give advice,” said Klopp, per the Liverpool Echo. “When new people come in, if they want to know something they can call me, the whole world has my number, unfortunately, so that means they will have it as well.

“We can speak about absolutely everything, I love talking about everything in this club. I love talking with each person, whatever, it’s no problem. But it’s not about me or up to me to be available to ask he or she. It’s no problem, I will give whatever I know about whatever I will tell them about.”

JURGEN KLOPP ON HIS SUCCESSOR

Klopp also insists that the next Liverpool manager will inherit a ‘fantastic’ squad – and one that isn’t exactly easy to improve.

“[The manager will inherit] a fantastic squad,” said Klopp. “A fantastic squad. Four weeks ago it was all fine and we just had too many injuries. It was like: ‘We could do this, we could do that, we need that.’ Thank God it’s not my job any more.”

And perhaps this was the most interesting line from the outgoing boss as he talked up the youngsters at the club and how improving on them is so difficult:

“A centre-half if you have to buy him, you have to go really deep into the pockets,” he said. “A right-back, if you need to buy one, you have to go really deep into your pockets.”

Liverpool likely will want a centre-back this summer, with Joel Matip almost certainly leaving at the end of his contract. There’s now even talk that Joe Gomez will leave – and that creates a massive gap at the back.

As Klopp says, though, it won’t be cheap to find the right players to fill it.
