Jürgen Klopp reacts after Erling Haaland evades ban as Liverpool boss fumes at host’s ‘joke’

Liverpool picked up a 2-0 win at Sheffield United, but Jürgen Klopp wasn’t too happy when being interviewed by Amazon Prime afterward. The German has also had his say after Erling Haaland escaped punishment, despite what happened to Virgil van Dijk earlier this season.

Klopp fumes at Amazon host

Jürgen Klopp didn’t take too kindly to an Amazon Prime host joking about Liverpool’s early kick-off this weekend. The Reds make the trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday, where they will once again play at 12:30pm.

Klopp has been vocal about his feelings on the timeslot, particularly after his side were forced to play in it after all three international breaks so far this season. And, when being interviewed by Amazon Prime host Marcus Buckland after the 2-0 win over Sheffield United, the Liverpool boss reacted angrily when the subject was brought up again.

Buckland began “You mentioned, Jürgen, that you have had to shuffle your pack, you have had some injury problems, you have got all these games, still going strong in Europe, the League Cup, the FA Cup, you are going to Crystal Palace, your favorite kick-off time at the weekend. That’s the price of success.”

Klopp replied: “That’s brave, really brave; you make a joke about that.”

The Liverpool boss continued: “Crystal Palace play tonight as well, and that is absolutely fine. But I realize you don’t understand it as well, even when you work in football, so why should I try to explain again?

“If you make a joke, then you are just completely ignorant. But it is good, and football is obviously entertainment, and I understand. It is all good.”

Buckland attempted to smooth things over, insisting he wasn’t trying to be disrespectful. Klopp though replied: “You were already.” When Buckland attempted to apologize, Klopp added: “You can say what you want; just I cannot say what I want because that would be really different.”

Klopp responds to Haaland incident

Jürgen Klopp insists he isn’t concerned about Erling Haaland avoiding punishment for his outburst at referee Simon Hooper during Manchester City’s draw with Tottenham. That’s despite Virgil van Dijk having a ban extended earlier in the season.

Haaland was left enraged after Hooper failed to play an advantage late on in City’s draw with Spurs that could have seen Jack Grealish through on goal. The Norwegian angrily remonstrated with the official, before taking to social media to post ‘wtf’ in response to a clip of the incident.

City has been charged after players surrounded Hooper, but Haaland has escaped a ban, according to the Telegraph. That’s despite Van Dijk’s ban being extended for his reaction to being sent off against Newcastle.

Klopp though is nonplussed about Haaland receiving any punishment. “I don’t know,” Klopp said when asked about the prospect.

“In most of the years the thing Virgil said no one would have recognized. [He said] ‘F****** joke’ wasn’t it? I have no idea exactly what Haaland said, I didn’t follow it.

“It is like it is. To be honest I didn’t think for a second about it, when I heard about it, it wasn’t ‘oh we get it, they don’t.’ As long as you are not emotionally involved it is much easier to accept it, in the heat of the moment it is more difficult. They would have probably thought about it and I have no opinion on the outcome.”
