Jurgen Klopp spotted ‘fuming’ at Liverpool fans after mistake against Luton

Jurgen Klopp was spotted fuming at Liverpool fans during their Premier League encounter with Luton Town.

 

Liverpool endured a difficult first-half against Luton, with Chiedozie Ogbene having put Rob Edwards’ side 1-0 up after 12 minutes.

In response the Reds went on to chalk up 12 shots in the opening period, but only three of them were on target, with the wayward efforts causing frustration among the Anfield faithful.

Such was the fury in the ground ahead of the break, Empire of the Kop claimed that Reds boss Klopp vented his anger at some fans behind the Main Stand who were berating Harvey Elliott for an overhit pass. 

The Reds were quick to turn their fortunes around, however, scoring two goals in two minutes after half-time courtesy of Virgil Van Dijk and Cody Gakpo.

Luis Diaz then went on to score a third in the 70th minute before Elliott netted a fourth in the 90th minute.

 

Before kick-off Liverpool knew that a victory would see them move four points clear at the Premier League summit, despite injuries to the likes of Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez.

On Salah and Nunez’s respective absences, Klopp said ahead of the game: “They couldn’t have played tonight. From here we will see who will be back for Sunday but that is not important at the moment.” 

The Reds are also without Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, Dominik Szoboszlai and Stefan Bajcetic, while winger Ben Doak is sidelined with a knee injury.

Liverpool’s injury crisis meant that Elliott stepped into a front three alongside Gakpo and Diaz. 

Meanwhile, at the back Caoimhin Kelleher continued to deputise for Alisson in goal, while the back four included Conor Bradley, Jarell Quansah, captain Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, who stepped in for Andy Robertson on the left.
