Jurgen Klopp threatens to lose the most important Liverpool pairs due to transfer options in January

Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp, is experiencing headaches in the middle season with Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara, which can determine the future in January. Both players will expire next summer now, but there are options to adjust the movement in the winter transfer window. This is because a pre-contract can be discussed with a club outside the UK up to six months before the previous contract expires.

This provision was introduced 28 years ago in the context of the famous 1995 Bosman decision on the free movement of professional footballers. Liverpool are one of the Premier League’s struggling sides and Klopp has until January to make decisions on two players and back-up goalkeeper Adrian.

Matip has successfully undergone surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) he suffered during the 4-3 win against Fulham earlier this month. A return date for the experienced centre-back has yet to be set, but there are concerns that Matip may have already played his last game for the club. Asked about Matip’s condition after the injury, Klopp said: “I’m confident the club will show their level.” I’m sure the club told Joel what was going to happen before he got injured. “Now we have to decide what Joel’s future will look like.”Asked if Matip would be the one to sign a new contract, Klopp said: “I would say yes, but that’s not my decision. “I can’t sign the papers.

Thiago has been out of Liverpool since the end of April after undergoing surgery on a hip problem. The Spaniard has missed the last six Premier League games of the 2022/23 season and Klopp hopes to return in the new year. On 3 November, Klopp said of Thiago: “This is a work in progress and we can’t put any pressure on him. We are waiting for him to return. I would say it’s the beginning of the new year.” It is now November. That means 4 weeks left.Thiago Alcantara could leave Liverpool at the end of his current contract.

I think it’s probably possible. To be honest, I want her back fast. He is just a special player. I understand you are asking this. “But not much is changing right now, so you don’t need to get updates every week.”If Thiago returns in early January, the possibility of a transfer increases and a pre-contract will be signed before the contract expires. Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce have shown interest in a move for Thiago this summer, while clubs from Saudi Arabia are also watching.

Meanwhile, Adrian signed a new one-year deal last summer to keep him at the club until June 2024, but it is unclear whether Klopp will offer him a new contract. The former West Ham goalkeeper has not played for Liverpool this season and is currently third choice. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will sign the final 12 months of their contracts at Anfield, while Matip, Thiago and Adrian are out of contract.
