In September, the LFC Foundation launched its first ‘Kip on the Kop’ event at Anfield.
Here, Reds fans swapped beds for sleeping bags to raise vital funds and awareness for the homeless.
The final total raised through the event was £65,000, which went towards Liverpool Homeless FC and the LFC Foundation’s Global Work programme, which provides sport-based employment sessions and mentoring to young people experiencing homelessness. As well as supporting our ongoing Global Works programme, the funds raised will help Liverpool Homeless FC continue their work by providing and supporting people in Liverpool or who have become homeless to play football.
John Finnegan, CEO of Liverpool Homeless Football Club, said: “We were really surprised to see how much money was raised. LHFC relies primarily on small grants and donations from the public.
“This is the largest donation we have ever received. The money will be used to host both men’s and women’s soccer matches and will also pay for drinks.“People are very generous not only with their money but also with their time and the supporters who took part in this fundraiser are helping our players escape homelessness. “On behalf of all members, we would like to thank you for your support,” he said.
Matt Parrish, Chief Executive of the LFC Foundation, said: “We are delighted that our first ‘Kip on the Kop’ event was a success and that the funds raised will help make a real difference in the local community.
“Plans for next year’s event are already underway. I hope it will be better and I hope as many fans as possible will support us once again.
