Manchester United and Liverpool have tabled rival bids to Real Madrid for Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe.
The Frenchman has informed PSG that he will leave the club at the end of the season, when his contract expires.
Real Madrid are leading the race to sign Mbappe, having seen two bids rejected for him by the Ligue 1 giants last summer.
But the Spaniards have reduced their salary offer to Mbappe from the one they made in 2023, given they are getting the striker 12 months later than they had wanted.
This has reportedly irked Mbappe’s team, who see no reason for the decision as Madrid would now be signing the Frenchman on a free transfer.
According to Le10Sport, that’s tabled bids from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool.
With Sir Jim Ratcliffe set to have his investment in the club ratified this week, the British billionaire would like nothing more than to kick off his time at the club with a statement signing like Mbappe.
United are one of the few clubs in world football that could afford Mbappe’s wages and he would be a huge statement of intent.
Liverpool have long been Mbappe’s most likely Premier League destination.
The Frenchman is said to be a Liverpool fan, and it’s claimed he spoke to Jurgen Klopp about a move to Anfield when he angled to leave PSG in 2023.
However, the German’s imminent departure has weakened Liverpool’s hand.
Though both clubs remain keen on Mbappe, it’s widely expected that he will end up at the Bernabeu.
