Lakers sign 7-foot-1 center to join Deandre Ayton in suddenly improved frontcourt, Significantly Enhancing Defensive Presence and Rebounding Capabilities”

The Los Angeles Lakers Continue to Reshape Roster with Significant Frontcourt Addition, Signing Christian Koloko to Two-Way Contract, Further Strengthening Team’s Interior Presence Alongside Deandre Ayton.

The Los Angeles Lakers have continued to reshape their roster, addressing their interior needs with the signing of Christian Koloko to a two-way contract, a move that comes on the heels of the team’s big signing of Deandre Ayton, significantly strengthening their frontcourt. Koloko, a 7-foot-1 center, played for the Lakers in the Summer League and appeared in 37 regular-season games for the team last season, showcasing his skills and adaptability. The second-round pick from the 2022 draft class, selected by the Toronto Raptors, showcased his skills at the University of Arizona and brings international experience as a native of Cameroon, adding a unique dimension to the Lakers’ roster.

After a promising rookie season with the Raptors, where he played in 58 games and started 19, demonstrating his potential, Koloko faced a setback when he missed the entire 2023-24 season due to a blood clot issue, a challenge that tested his resolve. However, he made a successful return to the court last season with the Lakers, averaging 2.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, highlighting his ability to contribute in multiple facets. The Lakers view Koloko as a valuable asset, and this signing will provide him with continuity heading into the new season, allowing him to build on his momentum. With Ayton and Koloko, the Lakers have made significant strides in fortifying their frontcourt, setting the stage for a promising upcoming season, marked by enhanced defensive capabilities and rebounding prowess.
