The Whites are looking to bolster their defence, and according to a report from the Daily Mail, they have joined Cardiff and Blackburn Rovers in the race to sign the 26-year-old defender.

Phillips joined Scottish Champions Celtic last summer on loan, but he barely featured once the Bhoys had a fully fit complement of defenders.

Leeds have been linked with a move for Everton defender Ben Godfrey but it seems they are also keen on Phillips who is on £65k-per-week deal at Anfield.

The Reds are lacking depth at the back following the injury to Joel Matip who is likely to miss action for the rest of the season.

Ideally, Liverpool will need a new defender, but they can also rely on the available options they have. Jarell Quansah has been outstanding this season, and he is ahead of Phillips in the pecking order.

In such a scenario, the Reds will look to offload Phillips in January where he can get regular games. He played a crucial role a few seasons back during an injury-hit campaign for Liverpool, and Jurgen Klopp hailed him as “incredible”.

Leeds have lost Djede Spense and Luke Ayling this month, and they need cover at the back. At the moment, they are not looking for a permanent deal for Phillips but would take him on a loan deal.

Recently, Pep Lijnders said that Phillips and Ramsay are likely to go out on loan in the last week of the transfer window. Farke is aiming to take the club back to the Premier League and Phillips will be a very good addition to the squad.
