Ex-goalies Neville Southall and Bruce Grobbelaar are putting aside old team rivalries for a good cause.
Two football legends are uniting in memory of a teenager who was tragically killed on her way home from a day trip to North Wales.
Former Liverpool and Everton goalkeepers Bruce Grobbelaar and Neville Southall will look back on the sparkling highs and devastating lows of their careers in a charity Q&A in Heswall, raising money for Charlotte’s Brightside, which provides support and social activities for disadvantaged children in Liverpool.
The New Brighton based charity was founded in memory of 19-year-old Charlotte Churchill, from Wallasey, who died in April 2011 when the car she was travelling in crashed into a tree.
The fund-raising event will take place on Saturday, May 11, at the Onyx Function Suite, and will be presented by Everton stadium announcer Graeme White. There will also be live entertainment, a DJ until late, and a raffle and auction with sporting memorabilia and prizes up for grabs.
It has been organised by New Brighton Victoria FC, a youth football club founded in May 2023. Chairman Chris Guy said: “It’s a pleasure to be hosting this amazing night with two footballing legends at such a great venue. It will be an enthralling night and I’m looking forward to some engrossing tales from both Bruce and Neville. There will be some top live entertainment on offer, as well as some great prizes to be won — it’s a must for football fans.
“This type of thing is exactly what New Brighton Victoria FC is about — more than just a football club, with a big emphasis on community. Our last event with Everton legend Peter Reid raised over £3,000 for a local family and this time we’re raising money for Charlotte’s Brightside — a wonderful grassroots organisation based in New Brighton.
“Whether you’re a Liverpool fan, an Everton fan or just a football fan in general, come along for this special night of football nostalgia. Not only will it be a fantastic evening, we’ll be raising vital funds for a wonderful charity who do great work in the community.”
