Latest Liverpool news and gossip as Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong jokingly referred to facing the Reds in a penalty shootout in the Europa League final
Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong jokingly made reference to facing Liverpool in the Europa League final during a training session.
The Reds are in the quarter-final of the competition as they face Atalanta next month. Liverpool will be determined to win the competition for the first time in Jurgen Klopp’s tenure as manager.
Leverkusen will face West Ham in their quarter-final tie and are alongside Liverpool as one of the favourites to win the trophy. The Reds can only meet Leverkusen, who are managed by Xabi Alonso, in the Europa League in the final due to the draw.
Should Liverpool get past Atalanta, then they would face either Benfica or Marseille in the semi-final. For Leverkusen, a victory over West Ham would clinch a semi-final spot against either AC Milan or Roma.
For more than a week, players from across the globe have been starring for their national teams during the March international break. Frimpong was one of those players, as he was part of the Netherlands squad.
Frimpong was alongside Liverpool duo Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo in the squad. Netherlands’ YouTube channel, OnsOranje, posted a video from a training session ahead of the country’s game against Germany on Tuesday.
