Former midfielder Roy Keane says Liverpool or Arsenal are unlikely to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.
After narrowly missing out on the league title last season, the Gunners decided to spend big last summer to strengthen their squad in a bid to close the gap on Pep Guardiola’s side.
Arsenal have made a strong start to the season, finishing third with 27 points from 12 games, one point behind leaders Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Liverpool, who had a difficult season last season, decided to revamp their engine room last summer to challenge themselves in all aspects this season.
They have also made a good start to the season, picking up as many points as Arsenal, but are currently second in the league on goal difference.
So the early signs are that Arsenal and Liverpool can step up their title charge this season and give the Citizens a boost.
In an interview with The Overlap, Gary Neville predicted that Arsenal will win the title this season and Liverpool could also be contenders. But Keane said there is a “lack of quality” at the back of Manchester City in the league and is urging Pep Guardiola’s men to retain the title this season.
Liverpool and Arsenal are unlikely to face City.Pundits say other teams like Arsenal and Liverpool need to act fast if they want to compete for the title this season as they are not at their best this season.
Keane said:”I don’t think the quality of the Premier League has been good in the last two months. I think the downside to some of the goals we see at the weekend is the lack of quality.”Man City are great, there’s no doubt about it.
But I think other teams [like Arsenal and Liverpool] should decide for themselves. I still can’t get over City. “Even if there are problems, they are strong enough.”Manchester City have performed excellently this season but have shown weaknesses in the squad.
However, as their skills usually improve as the season goes on, it will be very difficult for Liverpool or Arsenal to catch up with Manchester City’s pace. But if any of these clubs want to win the title this season, they will have to.
