Liverpool and Chelsea have sent ‘scouts’ to track the South American player.
According to Calciomercato.com, Liverpool and Chelsea have “sent scouts” to watch Fiorentina striker Nico Gonzalez on several occasions.
The Italian website claim that the Argentina international’s recent form has caught the attention of the Premier League side. González has provided seven goals and two assists in all competitions for Fiorentina this season, helping the Viola to fifth in Serie A.
According to Calciomercato, Fiorentina consider Gonzalez a “valuable” asset and will not sell him for less than €55m (£48m) and €60m (£52m). They reportedly rejected a €43 million bid from Brentford in the summer transfer window.
Can Salah be replaced?
The Argentine is left-handed and plays most of his football on the right wing, meaning Liverpool could be eyeing him as a possible successor to Mo Salah.
The Egypt international, who has a year left on his contract this summer, may need to find a replacement, especially if a Saudi club is involved.
Does González have the goalscoring record to match the Liverpool legend?
The Argentine has been prolific this season but hasn’t scored consistently in recent seasons. In his professional career, the winger averaged a goal every 3.5 games.
That’s not a bad return, but as the Reds search for their best player, Gonzalez may not perform well enough. But if the forward continues to score goals for Italy, he will be a player to watch.
