Manchester United and Liverpool target Jeremie Frimpong hit a smoking celebration for Bayer Leverkusen just days after cannabis laws in Germany changed.
Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong hit a smoking celebration just days after Germany legalised marijuana possession for personal use.
Germany became the largest country in the EU to decriminalise cannabis use earlier this week. New laws in the country came into force on April 1, meaning it’s no longer illegal for residents to possess up to 25g in public, while they’re also permitted to grow cannabis at home.
And Manchester United and Liverpool target Frimpong decided to mark the day by pretending to smoke an imaginary joint alongside team-mate Amine Adli after one of the goals Leverkusen scored in their 4-0 win against Dusseldorf on Wednesday (April 3).
Frimpong, who opened the scoring for Xabi Alonso’s side in their DFB-Pokal semi-final win, joined Adli in celebration where the former France youth international mimicked rolling a joint and lighting it before ‘passing’ it to the 23-year-old who pretended to smoke it as the pair burst into laughter.
The former Celtic and Manchester City wide-man joined the Bundesliga outfit in 2021 and has been incredibly impressive across the current campaign and previous season – registering 43 goal involvements in all competitions since the turn of the 2022/23 season.
It’s not clear how the pair’s celebration has gone down with their club and manager, but Germany’s new ruling could convince the Netherlands international to remain at the Bundesliga table toppers, with their new legislation following suit of his birth city of Amsterdam, where marijuana has been legal for several years.
Both United and Liverpool are among other Premier League clubs keen on a potential move for the wing-back who will be available for £35million in the summer window when his release clause becomes active, according to Football Insider.
