According to Football Insider, Liverpool have turned to Benfica to sign young prodigy Lorenzo Silva.
Lorenzo was outstanding throughout the season and was one of the most consistent players in the UEFA Youth League and Liga Revelação while playing for Benfica U23 and Holland U19.
His performances caught the eye of Liverpool, with the Reds scouts impressed by his performances for the Eagles’ youth team, making nine appearances and scoring two goals.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool are now closing in on Benfica for Silva, but will have to compete with Borussia Dortmund and Atalanta, who have also been linked with a potential deal.
Lorenzo signed a three-year professional contract but only had six months left to play. Benfica will receive very little compensation if they keep the rest of their contract available to allow Liverpool to negotiate a deal this winter.
Does Liverpool have a future?
Lorenzo is a promising left-footed forward who mainly plays on the right and his skills are comparable to Liverpool star Mohamed Salah. The Dutchman came through the youth systems of Feyenoord and Sparta Rotterdam before moving to Benfica in 2021.
If the deal goes through, Lorenzo will join Liverpool’s under-21 squad alongside new first-team signings such as Ben Doak, Stefan Bajceticicetic, Conor Bradley, Harvey Elliott and Jarrell Quansah.
Meanwhile, the club’s Under-21 side will see impressive performances from Kaide Gordon and 18-year-old Bobby Clarke, both products of Liverpool’s burgeoning youth academy.
Liverpool are actively looking for young, emerging stars, as befits their history of carefully scouting and signing promising players.
In addition to the many success stories, the club understands that not all talents can reach ideal levels, as seen in the examples of Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsey.
