Liverpool are keen to bolster their ranks with a number of departmental targets in the January transfer window.
Liverpool could finally get revenge for the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal by acquiring the services of his successor, Donell Malen.
The Borussia Dortmund star has been in excellent form so far this season, drawing comparisons with the former Gunners star and attracting interest from a number of Europe’s top clubs.
Jurgen Klopp overhauled Anfield last summer, focusing on revamping the midfield. Aging stars such as Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and James Milner have been allowed to leave, creating space and money for younger replacements.
Dominic Szoboslai, Alexis McAllister, Ryan Gravenbirch and Wataru Endo replaced them and the quartet settled in Merseyside.
Liverpool will now look to turn their attentions elsewhere during the January transfer window.
According to BILD, Liverpool love Malen and see him as an ideal candidate to provide an alternative option to their back three, despite the abundance of attacking talent at the club.
Malen has scored four goals in 12 Bundesliga games but his impact at Signal Iduna Park is incredible. The Dutchman’s versatility gives manager Edin Terzic the flexibility to play in a number 9 role, either on the wing or in the centre.
Liverpool are considering a move for Malen in the January transfer window and the former PSV signing could be the perfect revenge on Arsenal.
The 24-year-old came through the north London academy before deciding to move to the Premier League due to a lack of opportunities at the Emirates Stadium.
Jurgen Klopp believes Dortmund have signed Donel Malen as Mohamed Salah’s replacement.
Malen’s solid control and pace have led to comparisons between him and former Arsenal star Sanchez, meaning Liverpool should aggressively pursue the forward.
In 2014, when it became clear that Sánchez had no future at Barcelona, Manchester United were interested in signing the Chilean player and wanted his signature.
However, despite being tracked by Liverpool, the current Inter Milan star has turned heads at Arsenal and rejected any other interest in favor of joining the Gunners.
Reds have had to turn their attention to replacement targets Mario Balotelli, Divock Origi and Ricky Lambert.
So signing Malen would be a great way to get ahead of Arsenal. Especially if the striker can get off to a good start in the Premier League.
