Liverpool and Manchester United must strengthen their positions as the Premier League giants battle it out to sign Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio.
Manchester United, Red Devils and Real Madrid are said to be interested in signing the Portugal international in January, according to a report published by Correio da Manha.
The Lions have confirmed the star will only leave if his release clause is met and Inacio signs a €60m (£52.6m) deal.
Leaders Sporting host champions Benfica in the Lisbon derby tomorrow night and all eyes will be on the 22-year-old centre-back. CM Jornal claimed that representatives from Madrid, Liverpool and United will be present to monitor the defender’s performance.
Manchester United are reportedly willing to trigger a £52.6m release clause to sign Inacio, but there is a payment plan. The Old Trafford outfit plan to outbid their rivals by paying €45m in fixed fees and €15m in add-ons.
United have a good relationship with Sporting and could convince current captain and former Lions superstar Bruno Fernandes Inacio to join.
Jurgen Klopp needs to strengthen a defense that has been inconsistent for over a year. Van Dijk and Matip are past their prime and must bring in young leaders for the future.
Who do you think Liverpool should sign in January to improve their defence?
