Ather needs surgery due to a torn lateral meniscus. Doak suffered a setback after limping off in the 28th minute of last weekend’s 2-1 win over Chelsea Under-21s.

The 18-year-old has been part of Jurgen Klopp’s side all season, making a total of six appearances. Doak could have played in tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against West Ham but has now been put under the knife and faces a long layoff.

He’s young, he’s a good guy, he’s a positive guy, so he’ll definitely come back stronger and we need him to come back with the same passion he had when he had the ball. “I need time and I’m waiting,” he said.
