Liverpool could face Mohamed Salah problem with Yankuba Minteh amid transfer links

Yankuba Minteh is the latest of Arne Slot’s former players to be linked with a move to Liverpool this summer. With the Dutchman’s reign now having officially begun at Anfield, there’s every chance he could look to bring one or two of his Feyenoord stars with him.

Of course, Minteh isn’t actually contracted to the Rotterdam club, and is instead a Newcastle player. Plying his trade with a Premier League rival though might not be too big an obstacle for Liverpool, with The Telegraph suggesting that the Magpies may need to cash in amid FFP concerns.

There is one slight issue that signing Minteh would present to the Reds though. It’s one that they’ll already be very familiar with.

Despite being just 19, the winger is a fully-fledged international for The Gambia, with four caps to his name since making his debut in September last year. In fact, he scored on his first outing for his country against Republic of the Congo.

Not only that, but he has already appeared in one major tournament for his country, having played in all three of The Gambia’s games at the Africa Cup of Nations back in January as they were knocked out in the group stages.

That does of course mean that, if Liverpool were to sign Minteh this summer, it could face the same issue it has with Mohamed Salah over the years. The Reds have regularly had to go without the Egyptian – and Sadio Mane during his time at Anfield – in the early months of the year.

Salah’s involvement in this year’s tournament proved particularly costly to Liverpool, with the forward picking up a hamstring injury in just the second group game.
