Reds eye record Vinícius Jr deal?
Liverpool could pay a British-record fee to sign Vinícius Júnior this summer, according to reports in Spain. There are doubts over the Brazilian’s long-term future at Real Madrid ahead of Kylian Mbappé’s proposed arrival this summer.

The Frenchman is due to arrive on a free transfer from PSG and Nacional reports that he will be asked to play in a central striking position by Carlo Ancelotti. However it is claimed that if he is moved to his preferred role on the left, Vinícius could move on.

The report adds that Liverpool could try and sign the 23-year-old as a replacement for Mohamed Salah, if Saudi Pro League clubs reignite their transfer interest. Chelsea and PSG are both said to be keen on Vinícius too, with Liverpool reportedly prepared to pay a huge $217m (£172m/€200m) to get him.

The huge sums needed to get Mbappé meant a move to Liverpool was just not financially feasible. It would appear any proposed deal for Vinícius would fit in the same category. The Brazilian is a one of the best wingers in the world and would make a difference to any team in the world. But even if Liverpool does lose Salah, it would likely turn to other options who fit the club’s transfer model, and would not shatter the wage structure.

Atalanta responds to Koopmeiners interest
Serie A side Atalanta is yet to receive any offers for midfielder Teun Koopmeiners amid reported interest from Liverpool. The Dutch midfielder is having another fine season and will line up against the Reds in the Europa League next week.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, he is on Liverpool’s radar this summer with Juventus also interested. Koopmeiners has also previously admitted he would be open to a move to the Premier League. Atalanta is said to value him at around $60m (£48m/€55m).

But Atalanta director general Antonio Percassi told Mediaset: “Atalanta does not need to sit down and talk about their players at this stage. It’s normal that Koopmeiners and others are doing well, so consequently can attract interest from various clubs.

“However, we have not received any direct interest. We’ll see later on, we’ll sit down and talk once the season has closed, and whatever we do will be with the objective of strengthening the squad.”

The Reds will get a closer look at Koopmeiners next week but it is unclear if a summer approach will be made. Liverpool signed four midfielders last summer while Curtis Jones has also stepped up to the plate this season. If there is transfer business to be done at the end of the season, it is likely to be in other areas of the pitch.
