Liverpool have been heavily linked with making a move for Barcelona prospect Ansu Fati in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool appear to have been dealt a significant blow in their pursuit of Spanish star Ansu Fati. The winger has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield over the past few weeks, though a deal may not now be plausible as Barcelona are reportedly planning to use him as a makeweight in another transfer.
Jurgen Klopp’s side opted not to splash the cash during the January transfer window, with the Merseyside outfit content with their current crop of players who have led them to an impressive start to the campaign.
The Reds are currently top of the Premier League, winning 15 of their opening 23 matches to truly assert themselves as title contenders. Despite there still being plenty to play for, Liverpool are already putting the wheels in motion ahead of the summer transfer window though.
Barcelona star Fati, who is on loan at Brighton, is among the forwards to have been linked with a move to the Reds at the end of the season. However, those plans could be scuppered before negotiations even get underway.
According to Sport, Barcelona are eyeing a move for Brighton star Kaoru Mitoma this summer and have identified the Japan international as one of their attacking targets. The La Liga outfit have been following the winger’s progress closely and are aware that it will be tricky to lure him away from the Seagulls.
But Barca feel that they may have the key to unlocking negotiations with Brighton in the shape of Fati. The Camp Nou outfit are said to be hopeful of using the 21-year-old as a makeweight in a player-plus-cash deal for Mitoma, having ruled that the Spain international is unlikely to have a future at the club.
