An opportunity opened up for the left-back after Andy Robertson’s shoulder injury ruled him out of the national team, and the 19-year-old made the most of it on Thursday night. After the Reds’ three wins in Group E, Chambers described Alexander-Arnold’s emergence as a reflection of the direction the academy players are taking as “a stepping stone” to success at the club. “I’ve been dreaming of this moment since I was six years old.”

The left-back told TNT Sports in an interview on the pitch at Anfield after the final whistle.”I’m speechless because I finished with a win. I found out yesterday and spent the evening with my family.

The truth was right. “Trent did what I wanted. Seeing Trent do it gives us as academy players a stepping stone to do it again. “I couldn’t have asked for a better person.”Alexandre-Arnold wore the captain’s armband against Toulouse and was able to encourage Chambers before kick-off.
