The Liverpool defender has struggled with COVID-19, which could lead to a transfer decision in January.
Calvin Ramsey struggled during his loan spell at Preston North End.
Preston North End manager Ryan Rowe has admitted Liverpool could land Calvin Ramsey this month. The right-back joined from Aberdeen in the summer of 2022 for a fee that could rise to £6.5m.
However, Ramsey’s first season at Anfield was blighted by injury and he made just two appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Liverpool have decided to loan Ramsey to Championship side Preston for the 2023/24 season in a bid to secure regular game time. But the 20-year-old overcame the odds at Deepdale and has now featured twice.
He is battling injuries and Covid again. Ramsey is now fully fit but has been left out of the Lilywhites squad for the last eight matchdays. Liverpool have suspended the loans of Fabio Carvalho (RB Leipzig), Reece Williams (Aberdeen) and James Balagizi (Wigan) due to a lack of playing time.
In an interview with the Lancashire Evening Post, Lowe said Ramsey’s illness was holding him back. Boss Preston said: “There’s an opportunity in everything. Again, you don’t see him play enough. He wanted to come here and play and force his way in.
That’s why I put him up against Pottsy (Brad Potts ) “That’s why I signed the contract.” Injuries kept him from playing and then COVID-19 brought him back. He is currently out of the squad, but everyone has a chance.
We will do our best for ourselves and our players.”Calvin, like most players, has the ability to come back to the team every day. I had a short chat with him recently and he was disappointed that he wasn’t in or out of the team as he thought he could help and join the team.
The problem is we have guys like Brad Potts who have been outstanding since I arrived. “If we have a right-back, whether it’s Alan Brown or Ali McCann, we have a goalkeeper who can fill that position.
And if you are a right back, you have to select a player because the defense can go to the left. “I think the team and the national team can help us in the game. When you need to make a change in the game, off the bench.
It’s a bit unfortunate. “I think Covid has caught up with him because our squad has been somewhat structured since then, but yes, it’s an option if needed.”
