But that wasn’t all. The Premier League seasonal award nominations are out and Liverpool saw two names on the lists. Not exactly as many as you’d imagine from the team in third, but still.

The Athletic claim Thiago is definitely leaving Liverpool this summer with the end of his contract. It will bring an end to a four-year spell at Anfield that so nearly delivered everything.

Of course, this isn’t a shock. Everyone expected Thiago to depart at the end of the season as he’s barely played across this campaign.

ANDREAS KORNMAYER TO DEPART
Liverpool backroom team
Andreas Kornmayer, Liverpool’s current Head of Fitness and Conditioning, will LEAVE the club at the end of the season, according to a new report.

The 49-year-old is a key ally of outgoing manager Jurgen Klopp, having moved to Anfield for his first full season in charge back in 2016.

Fans couldn’t believe their eyes when he first came to the club, such was his resemblance to the manager, leading to Kornmayer receiving his ‘Kloppelganger’ nickname.

Kornmayer was at Bayern Munich for 15 years before being approached for the Liverpool job by Klopp, who credited his compatriot for preparing the Bavarians well during their 2012-13 treble-winning campaign.

Virgil Van Dijk
The names on the Premier League Player of the Season shortlist are now out – and Liverpool see one player included.

Virgil van Dijk has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season award. The Dutchman finds himself on the eight-man shortlist and is the only Liverpool player included.

Both Manchester City and Arsenal have two players each on the list. Phil Foden and Erling Harland make it for City, while Martin Odegaard is joined by Declan Rice from the Gunners.

JURGEN KLOPP UP FOR MANAGER OF THE SEASON
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been nominated for the Premier League Manager of the Season award. The German is a former winner, of course.

There’s a chance that Jurgen Klopp could sign off as Liverpool manager with an award. He’s on the shortlist for Premier League Manager of the Season – though, he’s not really a favourite to win it.

Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Aston Villa’s Unai Emery and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola make up the rest of the names.

LIVERPOOL TOLD TO SIGN SANÉ

Ex-Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant believes Leroy Sané is precisely the type of player the club needs to be targeting instead of Michael Olise should they lose Salah citing his recent Champions League performance against Arsenal.

“I don’t think Olise is an ideal replacement for Mo Salah,” Pennant said according to DAZN.

“You need someone with more experience, like Leroy Sane. For me that would be a great signing, he has pace, he cuts in on his right or left. When he played at the Emirates, he was absolutely unreal, he tore Arsenal apart.”
