Liverpool great Graeme Souness hints at new role in football after making punditry comeback

Liverpool great Graham Souness returned to the pundits on Monday morning, seven months after being ruled out.The 70-year-old has been part of the football media since his last managerial spell at Newcastle United in 2006, eventually leaving Sky Sports at the end of last season.

He helped raise more than £1m for charity over the summer as part of a team that swam 30 miles across the English Channel, and his return to football was finally confirmed by an appearance on talkSPORT.

In a welcome move for fans who enjoy lively debate, Souness will appear every Monday alongside presenter Jim White and controversial former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan.

The Scot was well received by his new teammates, who responded with gratitude and officially welcomed him back.

But Jordan appeared to give Wyatt the cold shoulder, asking, “Is that the part you’re playing this morning?”

As mentioned above, Souness has not had a role at the club since 2006. His most famous spell as a player came during six years at Anfield, where he won 15 trophies, but his days on the pitch ended with a player-manager role at Rangers.

With White having been interviewed earlier this season to replace Michael Beale with Philip Clement, it was curious if the Scotsman in charge of football operations would return to the club any time soon.
