Graham Souness returns to the Academy as a regular on talkSPORT radio.Graham Souness is back with the science for talkSPORT.
Liverpool great Graham Souness returned to the pundits on Monday morning, seven months after being ruled out.The 70-year-old has been part of the football media since his last managerial spell at Newcastle United in 2006, eventually leaving Sky Sports at the end of last season.
He helped raise more than £1m for charity over the summer as part of a team that swam 30 miles across the English Channel, and his return to football was finally confirmed by an appearance on talkSPORT.
In a welcome move for fans who enjoy lively debate, Souness will appear every Monday alongside presenter Jim White and controversial former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan.
The Scot was well received by his new teammates, who responded with gratitude and officially welcomed him back.
But Jordan appeared to give Wyatt the cold shoulder, asking, “Is that the part you’re playing this morning?”
I think you sensed Graeme’s return. “Ulg from the rooftops!”Jordan replied: “I’m exhausted because I’ve been campaigning for weeks and months to get him back.” “And I had the privilege of doing another show with him after this one, and that’s where my passion is.”The former Liverpool captain and manager said: “I’m surprised you have the money to pay me back.
Jeff [Stelling] and I signed the deal in this room. “There is no additional charge,” he joked.”Because Simon has a bank account in Jersey.” White joked as a studio joke.
As mentioned above, Souness has not had a role at the club since 2006. His most famous spell as a player came during six years at Anfield, where he won 15 trophies, but his days on the pitch ended with a player-manager role at Rangers.
With White having been interviewed earlier this season to replace Michael Beale with Philip Clement, it was curious if the Scotsman in charge of football operations would return to the club any time soon.
