Liverpool are tracking Victor Osimhen after he failed to renew his contract with Italian champions Napoli.
According to Calcio Mercato, the Nigerian international earns around €4.5 million per season and is looking for a new contract that would double his salary to €9 million per season.
Osimhen was Serie A’s top scorer and Napoli ended a 30-year scoring drought last season.
He certainly deserves a big pay rise, but the CM insists the gap between what he wants and what the club is willing to offer is wide. Meanwhile, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants a £174m (€200m) release clause in the new contract.
The 24-year-old scored 31 goals in all competitions last season. He is currently injured and has missed the last four games.
The media are reporting that Liverpool have made decisive moves to sign Osimhen, who is on Chelsea’s radar with a number of direct links. The question is whether the Merseysiders should secure their deal.
Jurgen Klopp’s front line of Jota, Salah and Nunes got on the scoresheet as Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest in the Premier League yesterday. On the other hand, the Dutch Cody Gakpo came off the bench and found the goal, but it was rejected for offside.
Luis Diaz, who was in good condition, did not play. To be honest, Liverpool don’t need to improve their forward line at the moment. This is especially true in position 9, CF/False.
Instead, the Anfield club should focus on strengthening the midfield in the summer and then strengthening the backline.
