Liverpool injuries and return dates including Trent Alexander-Arnold as multiple boosts near

Latest Liverpool injury news and updates as Trent Alexander-Arnold should be back soon and more could follow. Jürgen Klopp’s squad could soon look much stronger.

Liverpool is top of the Premier League table and Jürgen Klopp’s dream ending at Anfield could yet be on the cards. If the Reds win nine more league games this season, they will be guaranteed to beat Manchester City and Arsenal to the biggest prize.

With no Champions League football this season, Liverpool has the advantage of having fewer huge occasions to be involved in. While the Europa League clash with Atalanta cannot be taken for granted, the Reds will not have mammoth two-legged ties with Bayern Munich or Real Madrid to contend with as the other Premier League title contenders do.

And things could be looking up on the injury front as well. Liverpool has been ravaged by issues all over the pitch this season but Mohamed Salah is back now and Dominik Szoboszlai looked back at his sharpest against Brighton.

Within the next week or so, a few more players could make returns, while Andy Robertson’s injury sustained while playing for Scotland was not as bad as first feared. Here is the Liverpool.com round-up of when we can expect those who are currently sidelined to be back in action.

Curtis Jones, Alisson Becker and Andy Robertson

It was possible that Curtis Jones could have come back into the matchday squad for the win over Brighton this weekend but he ended up missing out in the end. His return could instead come later in the week against Sheffield United or Manchester United.

The return dates for Alisson Becker and Andy Robertson are yet to become clear. By the end of the month, both could be back in action again but the full extent of Robertson’s latest issue has not been revealed yet. Possible return dates: This week for Jones and within the next few for the others.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota

Ahead of Liverpool playing Brighton, Trent Alexander-Arnold told Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports’ coverage of the match that he is hoping to be back soon. “It’s hard watching and not being a part of it, it’s one of the longest ones (injuries) of my career so far, it gives you that hunger to get back out there and perform,” he explained.

“I think a couple of weeks, if everything keeps going well and there’s no setbacks. (I’ve) got to keep working hard, I’m not going to get back into the team — it’s not what I’m expecting — but it’s exciting. I want to get out there, help the lads, and be in a title race.”

Diogo Jota, meanwhile, should be back in training within the next couple of weeks as well. Before the international break, Klopp said he and Alexander-Arnold were looking at similar timescales for a return. Possible return dates: Within the next week or two.

Joël Matip, Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajčetić

It is less good news for Joël Matip and Thiago Alcântara in terms of them making a comeback. They are expected to miss most of the remainder of the season with long-term issues. Matip is still recovering from an ACL problem and both might have made their final appearances for the Reds as the pair are out of contract in the summer.

But Stefan Bajčetić is edging closer to a return. He will train with the U21s this week and could play some minutes at that level as he looks to regain sharpness having been out for so long. The Spanish midfielder should play again at first-team level this season and he remains a top talent who will play a big part in Liverpool’s future.

Possible return dates: The summer, most likely, for Matip and Thiago. For Bajčetić, it depends on how quickly he can get back his match fitness, but he should be in training this week.
