Liverpool injury latest and return dates including Diogo Jota and Trent Alexander-Arnold boosts

Latest Liverpool injury news and updates as Jürgen Klopp could be set for a double boost. Diogo Jota and Trent Alexander-Arnold could return to training this week.

Liverpool will have to move on quickly from the disappointment of another off-day at Old Trafford. Sunday’s draw with Manchester United means the title race is now out of the Reds’ hands.

Jürgen Klopp and his men will be ruing yet more missed opportunities against Erik ten Hag’s side, having missed the opportunity to move back to the top of the Premier League. With just seven games to go now, it’s Arsenal that leads the way on goal difference, with Manchester City sitting just a point further back.

Liverpool will likely need a slip-up or two from the Gunners if it is to claim the title this season, but a grandstand finish looks to be on the cards regardless. And the Reds could be about to receive a couple of big injury boosts this week.

Wataru Endō was able to make his return to the side at Old Trafford on Sunday, just days after Curtis Jones made his comeback against Sheffield United. Two more players look set to make their way out of the treatment room this week — here is the latest on the injury front.

Diogo Jota and Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool fans were certainly missing Diogo Jota against United on Sunday. Many felt the Portuguese’s clinical finishing could have made all the difference as the Reds spurned multiple opportunities.

The good news is the 27-year-old should return to training this week, alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold. The latter had hoped to be back in time to face Atalanta on Thursday, but with Jürgen Klopp suggesting both players will be in ‘parts’ of training, Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace might be more likely.

Possible return dates: Crystal Palace (April 14).

Alisson Becker and Stefan Bajčetić

There wasn’t much Caoimhín Kelleher could have done about either goal at Old Trafford, especially with Bruno Fernandes’ equalizer catching him off his line after a Jarell Quansah mistake. The Irishman has performed superbly in Alisson’s absence, although there’s no doubt having the Brazilian back would be a big boost.

Klopp has suggested Alisson could make a return to training soon, although a date for his return to action is still a little unclear. As for Stefan Bajčetić, the young midfielder is expected to step up his rehabilitation with the first team after training with the club’s U21s.

Possible return dates: End of April/beginning of May for Alisson, before the end of the season for Bajčetić.

Joël Matip, Thiago Alcântara and Ben Doak

It seems highly likely that Liverpool fans have already seen the last of Joël Matip and Thiago Alcântara in a red shirt. Both players see their contracts expire in the summer, and it would come as a surprise to see either extend their stays at this point. Klopp has already suggested the season ‘isn’t long enough’ for Matip to make a return despite running again in training recently.

Thiago’s season looks to have consisted of just a handful of minutes at Arsenal, with the midfielder suffering another setback at the Emirates. Ben Doak, meanwhile, also looks unlikely to feature again this season after undergoing surgery on his knee, but he should hopefully be back in time for pre-season.

Possible return dates: Unknown.
