Jamie Carragher has named James Maddison the most influential player in the Premier League so far this season.
Former Liverpool defender Maddison made the announcement after helping Tottenham Hotspur beat Fulham 2-0. This victory took Ange Postecoglou’s men top of the Premier League.
Maddison coolly converted Son Heung-min’s pass after the South Korean scored his third Premier League goal of the season to give Tottenham the lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The England international joined the club from Leicester City for £45million earlier this summer after their side were relegated to the Sky Bet Championship last season. Maddison has appeared in all of Spurs’ Premier League games since the start of the new season and provided five assists.
I am confident that if Jurgen Klopp makes big changes, Liverpool will be able to challenge for the title.”For me, he’s probably the most influential player in the Premier League,” Carragher told Monday Night Football.
“I think he was very influential. “Credit goes to the manager. “It’s his philosophy and his way of playing, but he (Madison) contributed a lot to that.”The former centre-back continued: “He took the number 10 shirt from Harry Kane, who would have been the best player to ever play for Spurs. I think he used to wear a captain’s armband.“He’s that kind of person. Sometimes when they move to a bigger club, these managers put too much pressure on the players. They really can’t afford it. That is not their ability. This is their way of thinking. “It’s possible.
He agreed to go to a big club, do an interview with us and be in the center of attention. “I really like that person.”Asked if it was fair for Carragher to describe him as the most influential player in the Premier League this season, Maddison said: “That’s the goal. “That’s an excessive compliment, but thank you.” “Going to a club like Tottenham, they are a bigger club than Leicester in terms of size and I really enjoyed my time there, but when you come to one of these bigger clubs there is a lot more control, a lot more pressure and a lot more responsibility and I think that’s really good.”
And prosper with it. “There are 60,000 fans here today and I love events like Monday Night Football. Then I’m the best. “I felt really good today and I’m glad we won because we work very well as a team. We have a hardworking team and a great manager. I just want that to continue every game.”
