Liverpool have reportedly made contact over a £34million attacking talent who has been likened to Christian Eriksen.
According to Calciomercato, the Reds have joined the race to sign Shakhtar Donetsk star and Ukraine international Georgiy Sudakov.
As well as Liverpool, the likes of Manchester City, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Napoli are also reportedly in pursuit of the 21-year-old.
The Reds, as well as Sudakov’s other suitors, have apparently been in contact with the player’s representatives over a potential move.
Calciomercato’s report also claims Shakhtar have placed a €40million (£34million) price tag on their exciting playmaker.
Liverpool one of many clubs eyeing Georgiy Sudakov
Previously linked with a move to Arsenal, Sudakov has been catching the eye amongst Europe’s elite in wake of his impressive displays for Donetsk.
He has made 18 appearances for the Ukrainian club this season, including all six of his side’s Champions League outings, in which he scored against Barcelona.
Sudakov’s story is also one of perseverance, doing amazingly well in recent years to maintain his levels and progress amid the conflict in Ukraine.
As per TEAMtalk‘s report linking him to Arsenal in October, he was pictured hiding in a bunker with his then pregnant partner in the early days of the conflict.
“He recently sent me a photo of them stuck in a bunker,” his former coach, Fernando Valente, wrote on social media – as per AS – in March 2022. “Every time I see it, tears fill my eyes.”
Sudakov also suffered from appendicitis earlier this year, missing the first four games of the season.
Despite all this, he has continued to go from strength to strength, and is now one of Europe’s most highly sought after young talents.
Back in 2021, Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout likened Sudakov’s style of play to that of Manchester United and Denmark ace Christian Eriksen.
All in all, the ‘top talent’ – in Fabrizio Romano‘s words – looks like a good shout for Liverpool. Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks.
