Liverpool are now interested in Arsenal’s £69m target.
Liverpool are in the race to sign Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande but may not land him until the end of the season.
Liverpool will certainly be on the lookout for a new defender in 2024 and could be tempted to make a splash in January.
Joel Matip is injured and could have played his last game for Liverpool as his contract expires in the summer.
The defense needs more competition and Liverpool could focus on signing a naturally left-footed centre-back.”Liverpool” is interested in “Sporting” defender Ousmane Diomande.
The Daily Mail are now reporting that Liverpool are interested in Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande.
We’ve seen Liverpool focus heavily on the Portuguese market recently, signing Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunes from Porto and Benfica respectively.
Liverpool could strike again by adding centre-back Diomande to their Anfield wishlist. However, it has been suggested that Liverpool could wait until the summer transfer window to move Diomand, rather than move him in January.
Diomande spent the first half of last season on loan at Portuguese second division club Mafra and has seen a rapid rise. The Ivorian was on the booked of Danish side Midjalland at the time but never played for the club and was sold to Sporting in January 2023.
Praised by former Mafra team-mate Guy Pereira for his “huge potential”, Diomande has had a good year for Sporting and has become one of the best young defenders in Portuguese football.
Now Liverpool appear to be interested in Diomande, who has been praised by Sporting team-mate Jeremiah Saint-Just as a “very good” defender.
The problem for Liverpool is that the 20-year-old has an €80m release clause in his contract. Sporting could stay at that price and tempt Liverpool and even interested parties Chelsea and Arsenal to pay a big fee in 2024.
