Liverpool are currently three points behind Premier League leaders Tottenham. Jurgen Klopp could turn things around in the coming weeks, but Manchester City are worried. As the weeks go by, Liverpool are concerned that the VAR ruckus against Tottenham could turn into a “Raheem Sterling offside” moment.
It’s true that this outrageous decision against Manchester City in 2013/14 was taken without the aid of video to correct it, but it was a less painful result for Brendan Rodgers’ side. With each new win, Spurs must be taken more seriously as title contenders. But thankfully it’s up to Liverpool to sort out their return woes at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp may believe he has a golden opportunity to overcome Ange Postecoglou’s side before then. But with Liverpool looking forward to the next game, they cannot ignore the fact that Manchester City is just around the corner.
Always the toughest away game on the calendar, Klopp is concerned he is without one or two key players as the threat of suspension grows. But before that, he has a League Cup tie against Bournemouth and a seemingly routine trip to Luton ahead.
Liverpool are on a tightrope. In a very satisfying performance, Klopp had just one concern against Nottingham Forest. Midfielder Alexis McAllister received a (highly questionable) yellow card, meaning he is now suspended once again. If he gets a yellow card against Luton, it means he won’t be able to play against Brentford. But if you see yellow in this game, it means you have to go to Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold has picked up three yellow cards during the season, so could theoretically miss out on Manchester City if he picks up a yellow card in each of his next two league games. But if that’s the bad part of this weekend’s game, there was some good (and bad) to be found.
