Liverpool Plotting Move For £50M Rated Teenager Who Has Played Just 16 Senior Games

Liverpool are interested in signing Leeds midfielder Archie Gray, according to the Daily Mail.

The English tabloid claims that the Reds are lining up a move for the 17-year-old, who could cost between £40m and £50m.

Gray has come to the attention of scouts from the Merseyside club after breaking into Leeds’ first team this season.

The teenager made his senior debut against Cardiff City on the opening day, and he has subsequently made 16 appearances in all competitions for the Championship club.

Gray has drawn comparisons to Alexander-Arnold
Although the England Under 19 international has played almost exclusively as a central midfield player in youth football, he has started as a right-back in his last six games for club and country.

Manager Daniel Farke first deployed Gray in defence against Bristol City in early October. On international duty, he was then used there in European Under 19 Championship qualifiers versus Wales and Austria.

On his return to playing for Leeds, the youngster made starts against Norwich, Stoke and Leicester at fullback. It’s only natural, therefore, for some to make comparisons to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who plays in a similar hybrid role for Liverpool.

Liverpool will have competition for the player
The Mail report that Merseyside rivals Everton are also keeping tabs on Gray, while Crystal Palace are watching the midfielder‘s progress too.

Gray is certainly a very raw talent but, if he continues on his current trajectory, more clubs could well join the race to secure his services in the coming months.

Leeds are said to be very reluctant to sell but, with his current deal set to expire at the end of next season, there is a good chance that he will be sold in the summer if he can’t agree a contract extension by then.
