Liverpool are reportedly preparing a bid to sign BK Häcken prodigy Momodou Sonko while his friends want him to join either Liverpool or Barcelona.
Fotboll Direkt journalist Ola Gustavsson reports that Liverpool, RB Leipzig and Bologna are all making “strong moves” to sign the 18-year-old.
The journalist adds that Liverpool have travelled to Gothenburg to hold “secret meetings” and although they have been productive, there is no concrete agreement just yet.
Rousing the Kop also claim that Liverpool are readying a bid although the report doesn’t include much extra information aside from mentioning that the City Football Group is also keen to make an offer.
What did Sonko say when asked about a hypothetical call from Klopp?
Liverpool preparing record-breaking bid – he’s told Klopp to contact his agents
Speaking to Aftonbladet about big clubs being interested in signing him, he even said that some of his friends want him to move to Anfield.
“Rumours don’t matter that much until bids come in,” he said.
“I don’t need to delve into what is written. It’s fun to read sometimes, but when you start hearing it several times from friends, it can get a bit tiring. It’s a fun thing, but not something I focus on.
“I have some who are Liverpool fans and some Barça fans. They want me to go to the club they support. It’s kind of funny.
“I get a lot written to me from my friends. It’s fun at first but it can be too much too.
“I laugh at them and tell them to calm down. It’s not more difficult than that.”
When asked what his reaction would be to a call from Klopp, he offered a comical reply but also suggested that the German would be better off contacting his agent.
“If he were to call privately, I would laugh. It is quite unlikely,” Sonko said.
“It is easier for him to reach my agents than me. I haven’t received that call anyway.”
