Liverpool are monitoring Genoa star Morten Frendrup as Jurgen Klopp looks to sign yet another central midfielder following the club’s overhaul in 2023.
Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all left Anfield during the summer window, with four new faces arriving through the door. Article continues under the video Genoa midfielder Frendrup has emerged as a possible transfer target for the Reds. It’s understood that Liverpool are paying close attention to his progress in Italy, although they have not submitted a formal enquiry as things stand.
Frendrup joined Genoa from Brondby in 2022 and he has been one of the standout defensive midfielders in Serie A over the past year. Klopp has mostly favoured the aforementioned Mac Allister in Fabinho’s old position at Anfield, but the Argentine is not best-suited to this deep-lying position and has struggled on occasion this campaign.
However, signing Frendrup would solve this problem as the Genoa man specialises in protecting his backline. In fact, no player in Serie A has mustered more than his 47 tackles so far this season.
However, Klopp has not been fully satisfied with the additions of Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo, and believes Liverpool may still need one more player in that position.
