Liverpool should expect a change from Darwin Nunez sooner or later

Steve McManaman believes Darwin Nunes still has a lot to learn if he is to succeed at Liverpool. The 24-year-old scored for the first time in 12 games against Burnley as Jurgen Klopp’s side returned to the top of the Premier League. Diogo Jota scored in a 2-0 win at Turf Moor. Nunez, who made his debut at center back against the Clarets, will have to shoulder the burden of Liverpool’s goals in the new year, especially with top scorer Mohamed Salah set to represent Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations shortly after a few short weeks.

The Uruguayan has scored eight goals and provided seven assists as the Reds are firmly in the title race this season. McManaman, who initially praised Nunes’ work ethic, now insists he should base his game on the former Liverpool legend. “Nunez has been here for 18 months. Yes, he works tirelessly and is full of energy, we know that. But it’s a bit confusing,” the expert said.

“People compare him to Luis Suarez, but Luis Suarez was like ice. Very strong. Very calm. “Sooner or later Darwin will have to change and become a real scorer.”Liverpool were back in action on New Year’s Day against Newcastle United, while Arsenal were at the Emirates Stadium for the FA Cup third round.
