As the 2023/2024 season currently stands, there is no doubt that regardless of the training initiative taken (this year), the Reds will eventually be replaced by a famous German coach.
Whether the decision to move Trent Alexander-Arnold into a hybrid role (at the end of last season) was a temporary choice or one driven by Pepijn Lijnders, this ongoing campaign has ensured continued tactical changes.
There were some positives that outweighed the negatives. So I think this system is just a short-term experiment that will last longer than originally intended. With the recruiting teams unable to get specialist (and elite) defensive midfielders this summer, I suggest that our vice-captain’s (sometimes Joe Gomez) hybrid moves will depend on the player holding the initial possession. Use to extract the central area more precisely.
In this 12-match Premier League season, Liverpool 2.0 is doing well, at least in terms of points won. Actual performance levels were a mix of world-class performance with some inconsistent displays.
Finally, the hybrid model is a model that can be used even without a rez (opposite) structure. In this highly international period, our 25-year-old right-back started (against Malta) as one of three midfielders designated for the Three Lions.
What the academy graduate said this week reveals how he sees the long-term future. I think the future will develop at Anfield sooner rather than later.
What impact will England have on Liverpool…? Gareth Southgate’s controversial move from right-back and his now 22-man England squad have revived his previously unknown career in England. The technical aspect of Trent’s game was never in doubt.
However, the former Champions League winner has been unable to switch to a position other than his usual full-back, at least so far this season. Former Middlesbrough manager Southgate’s no-nonsense approach has often seen him opt for right-backs and solid defensive units.Indeed, in almost the entire Klopp-Trent alliance, the assistant master has been a wide-ranging attacking option with more defensive needs than secondary.
A string of international matches in the TAA midfield will allow the German Reds manager to see his legendary number 66 in the central midfield position, part of his long-term strategy to re-establish the player as a permanent fixture.
Trent Alexander-Arnold was fantastic for England, He was undoubtedly the best player on the pitch. Excellent play and dominance in midfield. Some say Klopp needs a new defender and Trent should play in midfield!Master class
Now what… ? Liverpool’s current squad could be missing two elements they were looking for in the summer of 2023. The entry-level destroyer still badly needs a look outside of the hybrid design. We also need a new defender who can play both full back and central defense.
There’s nothing wrong with starting Joe Gomez right away, but only if those recruiting needs are met. A new right-back will be needed to slot the 6ft 4in vice-captain comfortably into midfield.
I’d love to see Stefan Bajcetic trained to fill that space as a 6-footer on clay who could develop into a first-team regular. The problem is that we don’t know where my teenage husband is the tip of the hill. Consider the small patterns and permanent wounds of his career.
If you need to use half of January’s elite protection protection, there is no difficulty in seeing a 4-3-1 system that is often open to new players (probably cheickouo douué). No one knows exactly what will happen.
This is both exciting and disturbing. I’m pretty sure Trent Alexander-Arnold doesn’t think of himself as a defender anymore. So now is the time to acclimatise the squad with the world-class midfield talent of our homegrown stars.
