Liverpool should target these 3 players in the January transfer window

It’s about that time of the year where we can begin firmly counting the down the days until the next transfer window opens.

Liverpool have been absolutely flying this season, but that does not mean they are not without some strengthening to do in the transfer window if the right moves come about. I’m here to bring up three players that I believe would be ideal targets for the Reds to consider bringing in during the winter window.

If they could only bring in one or two of these players, it would be sound business by the club. Let’s take a look at three players that Liverpool should target in January.

1. Ousmane Diomande – Defender – Sporting CP

Over the last year or so, when I have spoken about a Sporting defender that Liverpool needs to sign, it has been about Goncalo Inacio.

This is not to say that I would not love it if the club brought in the Portuguese star, but looking at things today, it appears that Diomande is closer to an exit than his teammate. With the departure of Ruben Amorim, the window certainly seems to be open for large clubs to raid his old squad.

Having just seen Ibrahima Konate go down with another injury to halt his brilliant season, a new defender is a must for Arne Slot and company.

We’ve needed a new central defender for awhile now and Diomande is a player that could fit the bill nicely.

He has great height at 6’3 and he brings some physical traits that are similar to Konate that a player like Joe Gomez does not possess for all that he does well. Diomande is also comfortable on the ball having played in Amorim’s possession-based system.

He’d be a great addition for £65 million but there are several clubs hunting for his signature so it won’t be easy.
