Jurgen Klopp has stated that one of his Liverpool stars could set to miss the rest of the season.
Over the last few weeks, Liverpool have been hit with an injury crisis whilst fighting on all four fronts.
The likes of Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez are all currently sidelined with injury.
After the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday, midfield duo Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo were added to the list after being seen walking out of the stadium wearing protective boots.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup fifth-round tie against Southampton, Klopp provided a grim injury update on midfielder Thiago.
He said: “Yeah, there’s no timescale. I don’t know, to be honest. It’s a couple of things [that] he has to do now from a medical point of view and then I don’t know if that will then mean that he can play again [this season].
“That’s not a short-term thing, that’s why I’m not really in the subject. It’s not that he might be in training in two weeks or stuff like this, so that’s why I’m not 100 per cent in it. I cannot say more about it, to be honest.”
On youngster Bajcetic, Klopp said: “He’s obviously gaining fitness now… he didn’t get a green light yet for us for the team training.
“He’s pain-free, completely pain-free, which is obviously the most important thing. All checks we made, like scans again, bone looks good, that’s all fine and he’s just doing the stuff he’s doing.”
Speaking about some of the other injured players, the Liverpool boss added: “Darwin, Mo, we have to see what they can do today. Endo got a proper knock as well, so we have to see. I wouldn’t say it’s much improved but that is how it is.”
After Wednesday night, Liverpool will be back in Premier League action against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.
