One Liverpool legend believes that the Reds would be a good move for a forward with a $76m release clause after a comparison to Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba.
Amid Liverpool transfer links with Crystal Palace star Michael Olise, who has been attracting interest from various clubs, including Manchester United, a comparison involving Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba at the Old Trafford side has been made.
Olise, 22, has been in impressive form for Crystal Palace and is seen as a rising star in European football. His performances have caught the attention of several top clubs, according to the Daily Mirror, with Tottenham also expressing interest in acquiring his services. However, it is Liverpool that has been backed to make a successful swoop for the highly-rated midfielder.
Liverpool legend Jan Molby believes that Olise would be a valuable addition to Jürgen Klopp’s squad. Speaking about Olise, Molby told Goal: “It won’t do Crystal Palace any favors, but I’d take the boy Michael Olise. He looks a terrific player. You look at players and ask, ‘How far can he go?’
“It looks to me like he has got the whole package. If I was Liverpool, I would certainly have a good look at that boy.” Molby also mentioned that Olise’s release clause in his contract, believed to be around $76m (£60m/€70m), could also make the transfer process relatively straightforward.
Molby was then asked whether Olise would have the right ‘attitude’ to be a Liverpool player. The Dane is confident that Liverpool’s strong dressing room and the leadership of senior players like Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold would integrate him well. He said that Liverpool’s dressing room “polices itself” and players have no choice but to align with the club’s values and expectations.
In comparing Liverpool’s dressing room to that of Manchester United, Molby highlighted the difference in support for players like Ronaldo and Pogba at Manchester United. He stated: “You had the situation at Manchester United where there was a lot of support for the likes of Ronaldo and Pogba — you would never experience that at Liverpool.” Molby believes that if Olise joins Liverpool, he would have no choice but to conform to the club’s culture and expectations, which would ultimately benefit his development as a player.
