Liverpool transfer news as the Reds could return for a Real Madrid midfielder it lost out on two years ago, as a potential Mohamed Salah replacement has been identified.
The end of the Jürgen Klopp era is looming larger than ever. The German only has two more games left in charge of the Reds, and soon his nine-year reign as boss will be over. However he isn’t doing quite yet with Liverpool, and there are still two more games against Aston Villa and Wolves to go.
Klopp will want to finish his time at Anfield in style, meaning six points from the remaining six available, even if the title is officially beyond the Reds now. In the background, the club is putting things in place so the incoming manager, widely believed to be current Feyenoord boss Arne Slot, can hit the ground running.
Michael Edwards has returned to FSG, Richard Hughes will join the club this summer as the new sporting director, and Julian Ward also looks set to be returning to Liverpool via a new role with FSG that, much like Edwards, will incorporate more than just looking after Liverpool’s affairs going forward.
Mohamed Amoura (Union Saint-Giloise)
Mohamed Salah was the subject of a mega-money offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad last summer, and it appears another big proposal will be forthcoming this one too. Liverpool ultimately rejected the $187m (£150m/€174m) offer last summer because it arrived too late in the summer window.
While a similar bid again could make it think, the chances of Salah wanting to move to the Middle East are slim at this stage of his career when you think of how it has panned out for the likes of Jordan Henderson. It wouldn’t be smart to follow suit.
But should Salah leave this time around, German source Kicker states Liverpool could target another Mohamed, Union Saint-Giloise forward Mohamed Amoura. The Algerian has made 45 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 23 goals and providing seven assists. Amoura can play as a central striker or as a winger, which could appeal to Liverpool.
Replacing Salah and his goals is going to be a big task for Liverpool at some point, and when he eventually leaves, it’s likely that one or two players will be signed in light of his departure. Signing Amoura alone wouldn’t be enough to satisfy supporters as he is nowhere near proven enough yet.
Aurélien Tchouaméni (Real Madrid)
Liverpool lost out on the midfielder two years ago, when he opted to sign for Los Blancos instead. Then at Monaco, Tchouaméni decided to sign for the team that beat Liverpool in the final of the 2022 Champions League final in Paris.
However, the move hasn’t really worked out for thee France international, with the 24-year-old making only 22 starts in La Liga this term.
Spanish outlet Nacional states that Liverpool could return a second time to sign Tchouaméni and table an offer in the region of $86m (£69m/€80m). Arne Slot, the report states, has already ‘requested’ the midfielder as his first signing this summer.
Liverpool.com says: Tchouaméni’s move to Madrid hasn’t really worked as well as he no doubt envisioned, but this could work to Liverpool’s advantage. if the club could finally bring him to Anfield at the second time of asking, it would be a great move.
